Emergency Care

Dental Associates is committed to doing our utmost to preserve your original set of teeth. However, there are times when the condition of the tooth is bad that it requires extraction.

Dental Associates is committed to doing our utmost to preserve your original set of teeth. However, there are times when the condition of the tooth is deemed hopeless and therefore requires  an extraction.

Extractions fall into two main categories – simple and surgical. A simple extraction involves the removal of a tooth that is visible above the gum line with dental forceps . The surgical extraction is required when the tooth is not visible above the gum line and involves an incision to the gum and may include the removal of bone as well.  Wisdom teeth extraction may fall into this category.

Your dental surgeon will advise you on your replacement options for extracted teeth so that  proper functioning and esthetics is restored as quickly as possible. Replacement typically involves the use of dental implants, dentures or bridge work.

Some reasons for tooth extraction may be:

  • Severe tooth decay
  • Gum (Periodontal disease)
  • A badly broken tooth that cannot be repaired
  • An abscess (pus that has formed around gums and teeth)
  • Crowded teeth

The root canal treatment is the most effective way to treat bacterial infections to the nerve of the tooth due to advanced dental decay, trauma or accident. Without root canal treatment, your tooth will have to be extracted and failing that, the infection may spread to surrounding structures. The treatment is a multi-step process that is administered in 1 or 2 visits depending on the state of the tooth and your circumstances.

Using advanced dental techniques and local anesthetics we can take care of the procedure with minimal or no discomfort.

After the root canal, the tooth is typically restored and protected from future fracture with our high quality dental crowns.

General Dentistry

Oral cancer screening is a part of the Dental Associates standard of care for all our patients. Oral cancer screening is an examination performed by dentist to look out for signs of cancer or precancerous lesions in the mouth. Tobacco smokers and heavy alcohol drinkers are at an increased risk for oral cancers. Regular screenings allow for early detection and therefore early interventions. Don’t be caught off guard. Have your oral cancer screening done today.

Teeth cleaning involves the removal of plaque, calculus and stains from the teeth. Our oral cleanings are your first line of defense in helping protect and maintain your brilliant smile and prevent further damage to your teeth at the earliest stage. Regular professional cleanings are an important part of good dental hygiene.

There is fluoride in your toothpaste. But did you know that a dentist grade fluoride treatment has the potential to do much more? Fluoride is administered in gel, foam, varnish or in a highly concentrated rinse. Fluoride treatments promotes strong teeth and prevents cavities by protecting the outer surface of the teeth(Enamel) that has been weakened by plaque. Dentist administered fluoride treatments are a regular part of good dental hygiene

We recommend a full-set of dental x-rays for all our new patients. Don’t worry! Your exposure to radiation is minimal. In fact it is less than you will receive from walking outside on a sunny day.

Restorative Dentistry

This is the same as sealants but requires minimal preparation before placement. This procedure does not require anesthetic.

The grooves on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth or molars are known as pits and fissures. These teeth are more difficult to keep clean than those at the front and are therefore more susceptible to decay. Resin coating or sealant (a thin plastic coating placed over the surface of the teeth) is an effective way to prevent tooth decay. Are your children’s teeth protected? Book Appointment Now

Tooth coloured or composite fillings are a contemporary and natural looking solution to treat tooth decay. They are made of composite resin and cause less damage to the healthy tooth than the silver (amalgam) fillings. They also provide an accurate replication of the natural tooth’s appearance and function.

*Implant Restoration

Missing teeth can take away your confidence and make you want to hide your beautiful smile. A dental implant is a permanent restoration used to replace missing teeth that will have you smiling from ear to ear with confidence. At Dental Associates we restore implants with dental crowns.

Dental implants are a tooth-root replacement treatment done by oral surgeons. A bio-compatible insert that mimics the root of the missing tooth is placed into the gum. Your oral surgeon will allow time for the insert and bone to fuse. A dental crown is then added to the implant by your dentist thereby restoring the tooth’s natural form and function. This means you can get back to eating, drinking, speaking and smiling as you did before. Learn More about dental implants

Your missing teeth can affect your confidence and alter the alignment of your teeth or your bite. It can affect the shape of your jaw.
